Rainy Day Sunset

It feels like it has been raining forever (I like rain, but I’m sure enjoying the sun today). Yesterday, late in the afternoon, the rain finally broke and the sun peeked out for a few minutes before going down. There’s something about getting a sunset after a rainy day that feels especially beautiful.

Winter Storm Wiley

The snow this year has been crazy (awesome). We’ve gotten decent amounts of snow and more snow “events” than I tend to think of getting in a typical year. We’ve started moving to our new house, so this last storm was especially exciting. Playing in the woods in the snow is the best!

Florida Spring Break 2014: Silver Springs

Thursday morning, we all (Mom, Grandma, Tony, and I) went to Silver Springs to canoe and see what we could see. As it turns out, what we could see was quite a lot. It was quite chilly in the morning (especially for Florida and especially for the clothes I’d packed), but with the sun out and the exercise, we warmed up pretty quickly. There was a brisk breeze that was cooling things off periodically, but we tried to forget about the breeze when it wasn’t blowing.

The canoe trip was awesome! We got to see all kinds of wildlife, including

birds (I don’t know what kinds of birds either of these are),

monkeys,

alligators,

and more birds.

Florida Spring Break 2014: Rainbow River

The last time I was in Florida, Jean and I went to Rainbow River. While I wanted to do some different stuff this trip, it shaped up to be returning to some of the same places Jean and I went the last time we were here. Tony and I found some different things to see, so it turned out to be ok.

Tony and I went to Rainbow River on Wednesday. We walked down to the swimming area

then around behind the old zoo and through the butterfly garden

to the nature trail (or whatever they called it). I wasn’t exactly dressed for walking through sand, so we abandoned that before too long (it wasn’t very pretty either). We walked back up to the top of the waterfalls, then back to the visitors’ center.

We decided we wanted ice cream, so we looked for a place not too far away from either Rainbow River or Grandma’s house – or the path between the two. That place turned out to be Scoops Ice Cream Parlor (they don’t seem to have a website). The ice cream was good (and huge!) and the banter was fun. I would definitely go back!
